Thanos – Comic VS Movie

I am going to talk about the movie AvengersInfinity War, and about the comic The Infinity Gauntlet #1-6 (Jim Starlin, George Pérez, Ron Lim). So, please go ahead only if you already watched them or if you want to know a bit more about Thanos and you don’t care about spoilers 😅

Before starting, this is not a profesional critique, it’s just my point of view 🙂

Answer this question: Which Thanos do you like the most: the one in the movie or in the comic?

For me, the Thanos that we see in the movie wins. Why? I’ll explain:

In the movie, he is someone whose goal is to eradicate half of the universe population because there are no resources enough for all, leaving thousands of lives living poorly and badly. That’s why Thanos, in an act of mercy and self-sacrifice, he becomes the executioner in spite of being seeing as the big villain of all times, so the other half that survives can grow up healthy and rich. He is willing to sacrifice everything, even his beloved daughter, to reach that goal. Because Thanos truly believes that that’s the only solution to the problem and he’s the only one strong enough to apply it.

On the other hand, in the Infinity gauntlet comic, Thanos’s motivation is love. He is in love of Death, she is an actual character in the comics. But Death is not easily surprised and Thanos want to kill half of the population in the universe for her. Yeah, this reason I thought it was cool as well but, after reading the comic, he’s just insane. Thanos is as much as crazy as strong he is.

So, I liked the movie version more than the comic one because in the comic is just another crazy guy who wants to bring death and chaos because he can. But in the movie I feel empathy with the character, I know he’s the villain and I don’t want him to do what he’s doing but I can understand his goals. I could feel his pain when he was trying to accomplish his job. Could’t you?

Anyways… we are close to the release of Avengers: Endgame and I can’t wait to see it!!
